Program for Advanced Mandarin Studies in Taiwan

In 2013, The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the United States is offering MANDARIN LANGUAGE learning opportunities to any American undergraduate and graduate students, who intend to pursue or have already embarked on a career in which an advanced level of proficiency in Mandarin is important.

TECRO is offering this award to American undergraduate and graduate students, who are enrolled as full-time students at a United States college or university, and who are interested in improving their Mandarin language proficiency through study abroad at a university in Taiwan. Ideal applicants are American citizens who neither hold a Taiwan passport nor claim Taiwanese or Chinese heritage and who meet the following category of eligibility:

  • Current Students and Recent Graduates: must have completed at least six semesters of secondary education Advanced Placement or an equivalence of university-level Mandarin study.
  • Only undergraduate and graduate students who have completed the necessary Mandarin study pre-requisites will be considered for this award.
  • Students should be able to explain how Mandarin will be important to their profession as they transition into the workforce. Though TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) is not required, it is strongly recommended.
  • Applicants who have taken or have registered for the TOCFL test will have higher acceptance priority.
