Assad Meymandi, MD '62, was an honoree at the 2010 Citizen of the World Award Dinner by the International Affairs Council.

John Pilconis, BS '64, has been inducted into the Jerry Wolman-Northern Anthracite Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Pilconis had earned a football scholarship to George Washington University, where he was a three-year letterman.

Thomas A. Cseh, BA '67, MA '73, was recently appointed deputy director of Vance International de Mexico, an Andrews International Company, in Mexico City, Mexico. Prior to that, Cseh was a senior regional consultant for five and a half years with Control Risks Group in Mexico. Vance International provides a spectrum of security consulting and investigative services in Mexico and Central America.

Rosalyn Terborg-Penn, MA '67, University Professor Emerita at Morgan State University, was awarded the 2010 John Blassingame Prize for Distinguished Scholarship and Mentorship in African American History. The Southern Historical Association awarded the bi-annual prize during the annual conference in Charlotte, N.C.

The 1970s

J. Jacques Carter, BS '74, is the recipient of the 2010 Harvard Medical School/Harvard School of Dental Medicine Dean's Community Service Lifetime Achievement Award. Carter was selected for his work with the Community Prostate Cancer Screening and Education Program.

Loren Ghiglione, Ph.D. '76, has been named the winner of the 2010 Distinguished Service to Journalism History Award.

Brent Neiser, BA '76, senior director of strategic programs and alliances for the National Endowment for Financial Education, was honored by the Financial Planning Association with the 2010 Heart of Financial Planning Award.

Lydia Bodnar-Balahutrak, MFA '77, had an exhibition of her large-scale paintings and drawings on view at the College of the Mainland Fine Arts Gallery in Texas.

Elliott Wiser, BA '78, accepted the national Edward R. Murrow Award for the website he created. The Bay News 9 Local News website was named best in the country for large market television stations. Wiser is the corporate vice president of local programming for Advance Newhouse's cable division, Bright House Networks.

Richard T. Carson, MA '79, professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego, was recently elected fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.

The 1980s

Sanghamitra Dutt, MBA '81, has been named the payment systems credit risk manager at TD Bank in Boston.

Elliott Kugel, MS '83, was named in Barron's magazine as one of the "Top 1,000 Advisers" in America, and was recognized as one of the "Top 25 Advisers" in New Jersey. Kugel is a senior vice president of investments at Merrill Lynch in Bridgewater, N.J.

Paula Brown, MA '87, has risen to the rank of rear admiral, making her the first female deputy commander of the First Naval Construction Division, based in Little Creek, Va.

The 1990s

Mitch Pascal, BA '91, was named the assistant principal at Tuckahoe Elementary School in Arlington, Va. Pascal, an elementary education major, taught in the Arlington schools and served as the district's social studies specialist before this appointment.

Andrew Dixon, BA '92, accepted a position with the Social Security Administration in Tallahassee, Fla., as an administrative law judge. A former Fort. Lauderdale-area prosecutor, Dixon spent the previous five years with the Department of Health and Human Services as an attorney-adviser. Dixon currently serves on the Regional Programs Committee with the GW Alumni Association.

Eric Lebson, BA '92, is on a two-year detail from the office of the Secretary of Defense, serving as a director at the National Security Council focusing on Pakistan.

Anthony Doyle Palermo, BA '91, MPA '93, is a senior planner for Lee County government in Southwest Florida. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

H. Jeffrey Rosen, MA '96, recently accepted a position at Aerotek/Los Alamos National Laboratory located in Los Alamos, N.M., as a training consultant.

Sofia T. Washington, MD '97, has been selected to participate in the 2010-2011 class of the Claude Moore Physician Leadership Institute. Washington is currently the medical director for the St. Mary's Hospital Pediatric Hospitalist Program and a clinical assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. She serves on the boards of Gemini Healthcare Group and Commonwealth Parents, and is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Heather (Hopkins) Shih, BA '98, and Chie-Youn Shih, BA '96, MD '99, are proud to announce the birth of their second baby boy, Connor Ryan. He was born on Sept. 27, 2010, in Norfolk, Va., and weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces. Proud big brother Hunter, born in 2006, loves his new little playmate.

Huiya Xiao, MBA '00, is proud to announce the birth of a baby girl, Bridget. She was born on July 1, 2010, in Fairfax, Va., and weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces.

The 2000s

Bryan Laliberte, BS '02, MS '03, and Alana (Conners) Laliberte, BA '02, MA '04 are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Tristan Bryan. He was born on June 15, 2010, in National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., and weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Elizabeth (Latwin) Mitchell, BA '02, and Chris Mitchell (PhD candidate) are happy to announce their marriage on Oct. 2, 2010 in Killington Grand Resort Hotel in Vermont. They reside in Arlington, Va. Other alumni in the wedding party included Mark SooHoo, BA '02, Bari Douglas, BBA '02, and Andrew Engblom, BA '02.

Tricia Parker, BA '03, a Chicago writer and filmmaker, has had her short film, Garbage Child, selected to be in the LA Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles. The film is also a final candidate for the International Human Rights Film Festival in Paris. Parker is also at work on a memoir, also called Garbage Child.

Nell McGarity, BA '04, MA '07, has joined SKDKnickerbocker's expanding public affairs practice as a vice president. McGarity joins Managing Director Anita Dunn, previously President Obama's communications director, and an experienced team, providing hands-on strategic counsel and the full range of public affairs services.

Dan Riesser, BA '04, is showcasing his new short film, Night of the Punks, on the film festival circuit. He currently works as a producer on The Soup at the E! Network.

Azucena Rodriguez, MA '06, recently accepted a consultant position at Accenture with the talent and organization performance service line in Philadelphia, Pa. Rodriguez was previously employed at Booz Allen Hamilton as senior consultant.

Jennifer Park Stout, MA '06, became the State Department's deputy assistant secretary responsible for public diplomacy and public affairs in the East Asia and Pacific Affairs Bureau.

Garni Gharekhanian, BA '07, is currently a master's candidate in politics at New York University.

Olga (Tsyganova) Brichto, BA '07, and Eric Brichto, BA '09 are happy to announce that they were married on July 18, 2009, on the rooftop of 1957 E Street. They currently reside in Arlington, Va., with their two dogs, Lucky and Bella. Eric and Olga are both graduates of the English department.

Jabneel (Jenny) Abreu, MTA '09, has earned the Certified Meeting Professional credential. The CMP designation acknowledges individuals who have achieved the industry's highest standards of professionalism in planning and managing meetings and events.

Jean-Marc Gorelick, MA '09, spent one month in Guinea, West Africa, this summer as a democracy officer with the Bureau for Africa at the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Sadie Thayer, MA '09, has been named the new director of the Kittias County Historical Museum in Ellensburg, Wash.

David Vordick, EMBA '09, has been selected the vice president and first CIO of the non-profit research and analysis organization CNA Analysis and Solutions.
