“Gs’ Bear,” soapstone, 17” H x 17” x 16”, Jill A. Lion

Robert Bruce Epstein, BA ’74, sculpted “Soaring Spirits,” an artistic landmark symbolizing flight. The 33-foot-tall statue, the tallest sculpture in Florida’s Tampa Bay area, has been erected in Avion Park, just south of Tampa International Airport. It was illuminated in a dedication ceremony on Dec. 17, 2008.

“Trina and Kai,” a carving in alabaster by Jill A. Lion, BA ’63, was exhibited in the Fall School 33 Open House and the Mill Centre Fall Open House at the Mill Centre, Baltimore. “Gs’ Bear,” a soapstone carving, was a private commission that now stands in a yard in Brooklandville, Md.

An exhibition of 10 paintings by Joey P. Mánlapaz, MFA ’80, was displayed at The Corcoran Corridor on January 14-25 and from March 14-29. Photorealist painter Mánlapaz is a faculty member at the Corcoran College of Art and Design.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas has posted a film by Adam Peiperl, BS ’57, on its Web site. The film is of President John F. Kennedy with excerpts from his 1960 inauguration.
