Zelma Reidling Warren Bannister and William Warren Graduate Fellowship & Thomas Dewey and Ola Herbert Reidling Undergraduate Awards

Purpose

This fund is established to support field work and research for both undergraduate and graduate students whose work will concentrate on Classical and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Archaeology, Human Paleobiology, the Study of Ancient Humans, and/or Paleontology.

Students working in a benefited position at GW are not eligible.

Award

Awards vary from up to $2,000 to up to 3,000 and are for Summer 2019 or the 2019-20 Academic Year. This fellowship cannot be applied to conference travel. Awards support travel for research, room and board, field school and other fees, tuition and/or living expenses.

This award can be combined with other awards but in combination cannot exceed the cost of tuition.

Requirements

The applicant must:

  • be a GW undergraduate (rising sophomore, junior or senior. Graduating seniors are only eligible if applying for funding for Summer 2019) or graduate student (Masters or PhD candidate);
  • have a professor overseeing his/her research;
  • have a research project related to Classical and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Archaeology, Human Paleobiology, the Study of Ancient Humans, and/or Paleontology.
  • submit a one page report outlining work accomplished by 1 September 2019 or May 2020 (if awarded during the academic year).

Priority will be given to active field work. Study of materials from active field sites and comparative collections will also be considered, as appropriate. Potential applicants whose proposed project falls outside these parameters should email gradfell@gwu.edu prior to submission to see whether their proposed project qualifies.
