Fishmeal Medium

Use commercial fishmeal which consists entirely of the pulverized remains of dead fishes. This medium is especially good with volvox and other colonial chlorophytes:

0.1 gm fishmeal
200 mls of spring water in a beaker
heat to 80 degrees C

Filter through filter praper while warm
Add 0.5 ml of a 1% FeCl3*6H2O
Stir well
Pour into 250ml Erlenmeyer flask.

Cover the flask with parafilm. To use, pour into culture tubes or petri dishes and inoculate with ciliates.
