The original CALM protocols, published in 1996 as part of the ITEX Manual, are:

Active Layer Monitoring
     includes discussion on sampling designs, probing, frost tubes and soil temperature measurements.

     including stationary and spatial measurements using gravimetric method and Vitel soil moisture probes.
