SITE
DESCRIPTION
The Victoria Valley Station is at an elevation of 410 m in a
former old lake bed characterized by strongly developed low-centered polygons.
This station is about 20 m down valley from a recessional moraine and
approximately 300 m down valley from the edge of Lake Victoria, a pro-glacial
lake abutting the upper Victoria Glacier.
SOIL
DESCRIPTION:
(predominant texture, i.e., ‘sand’, ‘gravel’,
‘peat’, etc.): Dystri Turbi-Histic
(Gleyic), Gleyi-Turbic Cryosols (loamy)
Sandy, mixed, hypergelic Typic Haplorthels
SAMPLING
DESIGN AND METHOD:
This station monitors soil
temperature to a depth of 120 cm, soil water content (10, 33, 83, 91, and 106
cm depths), air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, and wind (speed
and direction). Measurements are made at 20-minute intervals and averaged and
recorded every hour.
