Focusing on a Vision for the Future
Trustees Task Force Welcomes Ideas at September Forums
for Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni
In April, GW’s Board of
Trustees appointed a
special Task Force on
Advancement under the
leadership of trustee Nelson
Carbonell, chair of the Board
of Trustees Committee on
Advancement and Alumni
Affairs. The task force, comprising
trustees, administrators,
deans, faculty members, and
president of the GW Alumni
Association, is charged with
developing a comprehensive
plan to establish a culture
of philanthropy at GW to
support the University’s
highest goals as defined
through GW’s Strategic Plan
for Academic Excellence.
As part of this process,
the task force currently is
focusing on creating a 10- to
20-year Vision Statement for
the University. A clear and
compelling vision for the
future of the University is
essential for any successful
fundraising effort.
In June, the University
conducted a GW Leadership
Retreat, at which members
of the Board of Trustees and
school advisory councils, plus
deans, and administrators
gathered to participate in the
dialogue. In September, the
task force will hold a series
of forums with various
internal groups—including
undergraduate and graduate
students, faculty and staff,
and alumni—to gather their
thoughts and ideas on a
vision for the University and
its leadership. As information
about the upcoming forums
is finalized, it will be made
available on the GW
News Center Web site at
www.GWNewsCenter.org
and shared with the
University community.
