Comedian Jerry Seinfeld to
Headline Colonials Weekend
Comedian Jerrry
Seinfeld will perform
two shows Oct. 20
as part of GW’s
Colonials Weekend. |
Acclaimed comedian Jerry Seinfeld will headline
GW’s fifth annual Colonials Weekend. The Emmy
Award winner will perform two shows at the Charles
E. Smith Center on Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 and 10 p.m.
“Celebrating its fifth year as a GW tradition, it is
only fitting that Colonials Weekend 2006 should
feature such an accomplished and remarkable
comedian as Jerry Seinfeld,” says Robert A.
Chernak, senior vice president for student and
academic support services. “Every year we strive to
reach the entertainment interests of the wide variety
of individuals that comprise the GW family. This
year we are proud to invite Jerry Seinfeld into our
family as he shares his love for comedy with us.”
Recently hailed by The Washington Postas the “best comedian of our time,” Jerry Seinfeld has
regaled American households for more than 17
years, both as a stand-up comedian and as the star
of the hit show Seinfeld.
Colonials Weekend, an annual event that brings
together GW students, alumni, and their families, is
sponsored by the GW Alumni Association, the Office
of Alumni Programs, the Office of Parent Services,
and Student and Academic Support Services.
Proceeds from certain floor seats will go to GW’s
general scholarship fund as well as to the Stephen
Joel Trachtenberg Scholarship fund, which provides
tuition, fees, room, and board to select students
from the Washington, D.C., public school system.
GW to Hold Compliance Awareness Fair Sept. 20
GW will host a Compliance Awareness Fair on Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
in the Marvin Center. The fair is an effort to raise awareness of regulatory issues
facing the University and to educate people about the resources available to help
them identify and address those issues. Fair-style food and prize drawings will
be offered.
“There are hundreds of regulations governing almost everything we do as a
University,” explains Colin Clasper, assistant vice president for University
compliance. “Information security, payroll, research, taxation, and workplace
safety are just a few highly regulated areas. It’s easy to unknowingly violate a rule.”
Presented by the Compliance & Privacy Office and Colonial Community, the
event will feature representatives from departments across campus who will
present information about their department’s compliance issues and answer
questions. Participating departments include the Comptroller’s Office, Equal
Employment Opportunity, Facilities, GCAS, Health Research Compliance &
Technology Transfer, Human Resource Services, International Services, Information
Systems and Services, Office of the Chief Research Officer, Payroll Services, Risk
Management, and Tax.
Speakers from the National Science Foundation, Food and Drug Administration,
U.S. Department of Education, Office of Human Research Protection, and the private
sector will give presentations throughout the day regarding regulations governing
University activities and how to improve compliance. For details and updates, visit
http://www.gwu.edu/~comply and click on “Compliance Awareness Fair.”
