Weekly E-News Update Keeps GW Community in the Loop

BY JAMIE L. FREEDMAN

Want to know what’s happening on campus this week? All the latest GW news is now at your fingertips, thanks to the GW News Center’s weekly E-News update, expanded last month to include all University faculty and staff. Featuring recaps of the week’s top news stories, a preview of the week ahead, and timely links to important information, the E-News update is E-mailed to nearly 10,000 people every Monday.

Produced by the Office of University Relations, the update is an extension of the GW News Center, launched in 2002 as the University’s daily online news source. “The weekly E-News update started in the spring of 2003 as a subscription E-mail containing the top stories and events of the week and has grown substantially over the past two years,” said, Chris M. Kormis, executive director of University Relations. “We’re very pleased to be providing immediate news to faculty and staff, and we have already received positive feedback saying it’s of value to them.”

According to Kormis, a number of people were hard at work over the past year — both at Information Systems and Services and the Office of University Relations — developing procedures to send the weekly E-mail to faculty and staff. Also propelling the expansion was an extensive redesign of the GW News Center in February. “The redesign has allowed us to put much more content on the site,” said Kormis. “The GW News Center is now similar to CNN.com — a living page that we’re constantly updating with new stories and information.” Kormis invites the GW community to contact the GW News Center with additional news items. “If anyone has information or content to include on the site, please let us know,” she said.
