President Trachtenberg Named DC “Business Leader of the Year”

The Washington, DC, Chamber of Commerce (DCCC) named President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg the 2005 “Business Leader of the Year.” The president will receive his honor at the Chamber’s Choice Awards Oct. 29.

“I’m no businessman. I’m an educator,” said Trachtenberg in a statement following the announcement of the award. “That said, at GW, we understand, appreciate, and — we hope — continue to be business-like in our operation and in our efforts to enhance our community, helping Washington, DC, become an even better place to live, work, and learn.”

The award is presented to individuals who demonstrate exceptional management qualities, as well as possess excellent leadership skills and a proven record of professional accomplishment.

“[President Trachtenberg] is one of the city’s most compelling and thoughtful leaders, and we’re fortunate for all he has done to enhance the District’s reputation nationally,” said Natalie Ludaway (JD ’86), chair of DCCC’s executive board of directors and managing partner of Leftwich and Ludaway, PLLC. “I am proud to be a graduate of GW’s Law School. My only regret is that I wasn’t at GW under Steve’s presidency.”
