GW, Smithsonian Associates Present Cronkite and Hottelet

Events Celebrate CBS News's 75 Years

GW teamed with the Smithsonian Associates to bring two legends of broadcasting, Walter Cronkite and Richard C. Hottelet, to campus for in-depth interviews. Michael Freedman, former general manager of CBS Radio Network and current GW vice president for communications, introduced audiences to the man who told the world about the Kennedy assassination, celebrated the moon landing, and earned the distinction as “the most trusted man in America,” Sept. 22.

On Oct. 10, Hottelet, one of the revered “Murrow Boys,” described his 41 years with CBS News including his experiences as a WWII correspondent.
Shown in photo is Cronkite (center) with his former CBS editor Ed Bliss (far left), Freedman, and GW freshmen from the “pressroom” floor of the Hall on Virginia Avenue (HOVA). Some 500 GW students attended the forum.

The events were held in recognition of CBS’s 75-year history in broadcasting.
