GW Farmer’s Market Soars on Opening Day

First Market Draws Hundreds of Shoppers

It seemed like a simple idea, pairing a community starving for fresh produce and creative handicrafts with a group of vendors eager for sales, but until Oct. 23 it had never been done before. Less than a year after asking, ‘Why Not?’ Senior Josh Singer watched on as crowds descended on Kogan Plaza to get their hands on anything from fruits and vegetables to Russian tea cups.

“This was a much better test run than I ever could have imagined,” says Singer, adding crowds were so good they had to extend the market by an hour.

A second market is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 20, a week before Thanksgiving, so “students can buy things, — last minute gifts, and cool eclectic things from Washington, DC,” Singer says.
