Guide to Inauguration Week, Nov. 12-17

MONDAY / NOVEMBER 12

From President to President: A Gift from George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens
Join President Steven Knapp and Diane Robinson Knapp as they receive two Hog Island sheep—the breed kept by George Washington—from George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. The event will include a brief ceremony at 10 a.m. Other activities include an interactive experience with the sheep; opportunities to learn more about Hog Island sheep, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and George Washington’s legacy; and a visit from “General and Mrs. Washington” themselves. Families are especially welcome. 9 a.m. to noon. Mount Vernon Campus Quad, 2100 Foxhall Road, NW. In case of severe inclement weather, the event will be held in the Lloyd Gym on the Mount Vernon Campus.

Inauguration of Steven Knapp as GW’s 16th President
The inauguration will bring together GW’s global community—trustees, faculty, students, staff, and alumni—as well as distinguished visitors to celebrate the installation of Steven Knapp as GW’s 16th president. 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m. Charles E. Luther W. Brady Art Gallery Reception “Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way: George Washington’s Vision”
Last opportunity to view pages of George Washington’s will bequeathing shares of stock in the Potomac Company for the establishment of a university in the nation’s capital. The will is on display through 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16. Jumpstart Book Drive
Organized in partnership with Jumpstart, a national nonprofit organization, Books for Africa, and the GW Bookstore to help D.C. students. Participants are welcome to purchase and donate books. 2–6 p.m. Marvin Center, First Floor, 800 21st Street, NW.
