The 2001 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Hane powered his way through the A-10 tournament winning all three singles matches at No. 1 and posting a 2–1 record at No. 1 doubles at the Oxford Athletic Club in Oxford, PA, last month. The Colonials finished second to Richmond with Hane defeating his counterpart, Niki Doll, 6–3, 6–2.

Treadgold went 2–0 in the A-10 Championship at No. 2 singles and 1–0 at No. 2 doubles. In his first season of collegiate tennis, Treadgold posted a 12–3 record while playing at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles and a 9-5 doubles record, all at No. 2.

The Colonials (16–7) won 16 matches, including a 10-match win streak, in the first season at their new home facility on GW’s Mount Vernon Campus.

Karl Welcomes a New Carl to Colonials

Point guard Carl Elliott (Brooklyn, NY/Trinity-Pawling) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent with The George Washington University, head basketball coach Karl Hobbs has announced. He is GW’s fifth signee for 2002-03.

The 6-3, 210-pound Elliott averaged 15 points, eight assists, six steals and four rebounds per game while shooting 83 percent from the free throw line for Trinity-Pawling as a senior. In addition to his basketball prowess, Elliott also was a standout wide receiver and a running back for Trinity-Pawling as well as a sprinter for the track team at Trinity-Pawling.

The Pride posted a record of 20–3 (.869) during Elliott’s senior season under coach Bill Casson. The Pride finished third in the Class B Division of the New England Prep School Athletic Association.

“We are very fortunate to get Carl Elliott,” Hobbs says. “He is a tremendous guard; perfect size with superior ball-handling skills. Carl gives us more depth in the backcourt, which will allow us to have more consistency in our transition game.”

Elliott was named the Player of the Year and to the All-Tri-State League team as a senior in a vote by the league coaches. He also earned all-league honors for football.
