GW Maps 20-year Development Plan

After a year-long community-based planning process coordinated with the District’s Office of Planning, The George Washington University filed its GW Foggy Bottom Campus Plan 2006–25 with the DC Zoning Commission on Feb. 16. The plan follows GW’s “Grow Up, Not Out” strategy to accommodate the University’s forecasted academic and student housing space requirements within the existing campus boundaries, concentrating density (in terms of taller buildings and larger lot coverage) in the center of the campus.

This approach maintains the unique and diverse character of the Foggy Bottom Campus and allows for the retention of numerous architecturally and historically significant buildings, as well as important campus open spaces such as the University Yard and Kogan Plaza. The new plan also seeks to develop campus and neighborhood-serving retail at the ground floor of all new development along Eye Street, creating a dynamic “Eye Street Retail Corridor” extending from the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro to the Shops at 2000 Penn.
