By Brian Krause

The George Washington University’s Board of Trustees elected two new members to its ranks during its May 17 meetings.

Nelson Carbonell, Jr., co-founder of Cysive, a pioneering e-commerce company, was elected to the board as a Charter Trustee. Carbonell, who earned his BS in electrical engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, in 1985, will serve a three-year term after which he is eligible for re-election.

Scott Mory, an associate at Cahill, Gordon, and Reindel, was elected to the Board as a Young Alumni Trustee. Mory received both a BA 1996 and a JD in 1999. His three-year term begins July 1.

Also at the meeting, Charles T. Manatt, Joseph L. Brand, and Patricia D. Gurne were reelected to their positions as chairman, vice chairman, and vice chairwoman, respectively. Lydia W. Thomas was selected to serve as secretary of the board, and Eric Linder was selected to service as assistant secretary.

Sheldon S. Cohen was elected emeritus trustee. Cohen, who served as chairman prior to Manatt’s election last year, has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1980.
