GW Board of Trustees Elects New Members

Alumni Cynthia “Cissy” Baker, M.V.C. ’78, and Omar Woodard, B.A. ’05, M.P.A. ’07, are the newest members of the GW Board of Trustees. Baker, a charter trustee, and Woodard, a young alumni trustee, will assume their duties on July 1.

“These new trustees join our board as GW continues to grow its intellectual capital and reputation as a world-class university,” says W. Russell Ramsey, B.B.A. ’81, chairman of the GW Board of Trustees. “Cissy returns to our board with proven leadership skills and will offer valuable guidance, especially as GW further develops its Mount Vernon Campus. Still actively engaged in the GW community, Omar’s insights into the needs of recent alumni will be a tremendous asset.”

Baker is vice president of news operations for Tribune Broadcasting, a subsidiary of the Tribune Company of Chicago. In her role, she oversees news operations of all Tribune television stations and coordinates news coverage of national events. She also facilitates content sharing between the Tribune’s newspaper and television operations. Baker is an emeritus board member of the National Press Foundation and a former trustee of the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation. Baker served on the GW Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2006. While a student, she was president of the Mount Vernon College student government.

Woodard is an associate with the Whitaker Group, a strategic consulting firm focused on Africa. In his role, Woodard develops and implements comprehensive government affairs strategies and solutions for clients. At GW, he was an active member of the student body and was the Student Association president from 2004 to 2005. Woodard earned an M.P.A. from the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration while serving as a GW presidential administrative fellow.
