Sean Cleary Receives Fulbright Senior Scholar Award to Teach Epidemiology in Nepal

Sean D. Cleary, an associate professor in the department of epidemiology and biostatistics in GW’s School of Public Health and Health Services, has received a Fulbright Senior Scholar lecturing/research award to Nepal for Spring 2007. Cleary will teach epidemiology in the departments of microbiology and community medicine and family health, both at Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine in Kathmandu, Nepal.

He also will explore the feasibility of teaching and implementing small area analysis techniques to examine the geographic distribution of disease in Nepal by mapping patterns of disease and applying these techniques to guide health planning.
Director of the MS/PhD program in epidemiology, Cleary joined the GW faculty in September 2000, after training at both Tulane and Columbia universities. His research has focused on health disparities in minority communities, including end-stage renal disease and cardiovascular disease, and on adolescent risk and health behaviors, and family and community violence related to the onset of substance use and illegal activities.
