Wilson Heads to LoudounDulles Campus
Former MIT Administrator Takes Over for Irwin Price
By Greg Licamele
John Wilson will lead the LoudounDulles Research
and Graduate Education Campus as executive dean, taking the reigns from
Irwin Price, who has served in that position since the campus opened
in 1991.
Wilson joined the GW community in September, serving
as senior assistant vice president, where his primary focus was the
Universitys new strategic initiative. Prior to joining GW, Wilson
worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as director of foundation
relations and school development services, as well as assistant provost
for outreach.
His experience at MIT will serve him well in
his new responsibilities, as we work to enhance GWs collaborative
activities in Northern Virginia with industry, government, and other
educational institutions, says Donald R. Lehman, vice president
for academic affairs.
In his 10 years at GW, Price helped oversee the growth
of the Loudoun campus from 200 enrollments and $50,000 in funded research
to 3,000 enrollments and funded research that tops $28 million. Price
is now chancellor of the Daytona Beach campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University in Florida.
Ive had to deal with the intersect of
three cultures: the University, the technology community, and Loudoun
County, Price says. I tried to get those three areas to
work together in the interest of the University and thats what
weve achieved.
President Trachtenberg, who worked with Price at Boston
University, calls Price the mortar that held many parts
of the campus together.
When I came to The George Washington University
14 years ago, I set about inducing him to leave Boston and join us here
to help build the campus, Trachtenberg says. Hes done
a magnificent job.
