Colonial Confessions: What movie would you nominate for an Oscar?
|
Charles Basden Jr., executive associate, Student and Academic Support Services:
I’d nominate Iron Man. It was nice to see Robert Downey Jr. come around from his rocky past. I’m usually not big on superhero movies but Downey Jr. did a great job making Iron Man seem like a normal person with all his faults and shortcomings. His wit and humor shined through in this role.

Maureen Ryan, director of administration, Media and Public Affairs Building:
I haven’t had a chance to see the movies that were nominated. But if we can create a new category for “Best Looking Actor in Bad Movie,” I’d nominate Daniel Craig for his role in Quantum of Solace.

Mike Freedman, executive director, Global Media Institute:
I’d like to nominate Gran Torino for three reasons: I am a huge Clint Eastwood fan; the movie takes place in Detroit, which is my hometown; and my wife and I honeymooned in a Ford Gran Torino! I also would like to nominate Cadillac Records. It’s a smaller film about the creation of Chess Records and its recording artists. |

Olivia Kohler, assistant director, University Art Galleries:
I’d like to nominate Anne Hathaway for her role in Rachel Getting Married. It was a different kind of role for her, and she did a great job.
