Hirshman Appointed University’s Chief Research Officer

Elliot Hirshman, professor of psychology, CCAS, was recently named the University’s chief research officer (CRO). As CRO, Hirshman is responsible for research operations, ensuring the continuation of University-wide collaborations, and working to generate supplemental awards for more research. In addition, Hirshman will encourage the development of new research initiatives in accordance with the University’s strategic plan. He also will provide support to University staff on all levels of the research process, from proposals to publishing.

Hirshman came to GW in 2002 as the Department of Psychology chair and Thelma Hunt Professor of Psychology.

“Elliot brings to the position a full understanding of the role that academic research plays in the educational mission of The George Washington University,” said Donald R. Lehman, executive vice president for academic affairs “This understanding, combined with his past academic administration experiences, positions him well to collaboratively plan GW’s strategic research directions, policies, and operational infrastructure.”

Hirshman said, “I am very excited to be coming on board. I look forward to working with faculty, staff, and other senior administrators to enhance research at GW.”
