District of Columbia leadership paid tribute to GW President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg with a day in his honor and a resolution recognizing his 19 years of leadership at GW and in the city.

On Monday, Dec. 4, D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams attended a reception in GW’s Media and Public Affairs Building honoring Trachtenberg and presented the University’s president with a mayoral proclamation naming the date “Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Day” in the District of Columbia. In addition to celebrating the proclamation, Trachtenberg and Williams participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the new home of GW’s Office of Community Service at 2129 G Street. The following day, Tuesday, Dec. 5, Councilman Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) and the District of Columbia Council presented Trachtenberg with the “Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Recognition Resolution of 2006” Dec. 5.

“As president of GW, Stephen Joel Trachtenberg has been a great partner to the city—especially to our children who have benefited greatly from his assistance in furthering their education,” said Williams. “He is a national leader in the field of education, but he has always been attentive to his local community.”
