The 2006 Customer
Service Celebration’s breakfast and awards ceremony drew a standing-room-only crowd to the
Marvin Center Grand
Ballroom on Nov. 9. The ceremony capped a weeklong celebration, which had a theme of “Pledge Exceptional Service” and featured a variety of events, including coffee
and conversation breaks, opportunities to write notes of thanks to employees, a brown bag lecture on stress management, and customer service training sessions.

At the ceremony, customer service awards were given to individuals and departments based on nominations from the GW community. “We received over 200 nominations for service awards to honor individuals and departments from GW students, faculty members, staff members, and parents,” says Andrew Sonn, director of Student Academic and Support Services Customer Service Initiatives. “This is a testament to the exceptional service that’s being done on a daily basis at GW to support academic excellence.”

The Students’ Choice Award went to Touran Waters, associate director of undergraduate admissions. Jamie Bosket, executive coordinator for the Elliott School of International Affairs, received the Staff’s Choice Award.

The Service Partnership Award, established to recognize interdepartmental initiatives, went to both the Office of Admissions and Information Systems and Services for their collaboration on an online student admissions application.
Ixchel Tate, senior student financial assistance counselor, received the
Parents’ Choice Award, while the Department Enhancement Award went to the Office of the Registrar for its numerous service improvements. The Faculty Choice Award went to Marjorie Mills, executive coordinator of the Theatre and Dance Department.

In addition, Service Achievement Awards went to Rodney Johnson, director of Parent Services, and Robin Imer, senior property manager for Residential Property Management, while Student Academic and Support Services named Matt Trainum, director of GW Housing Programs, its Employee
of the Year.
