Something to Crow About

A new statue procured by President Trachtenberg is the fourth bird statue on campus created by Martha’s Vineyard-based artist Ben Cabot. The sculpture, located outside of the Old Main Building on F Street, weighs approximately 500 pounds and measures 69 inches tall.

Three other bird sculptures by Cabot reside on campus: one on the southeast corner of the University Yard; a second on Eye Street in front of the West End apartment building, which is a memorial to 9/11; and a third on the Mount Vernon Campus in front of Eckles Library. These avian landmarks help to highlight and punctuate the campus and create meeting places for the GW community and visitors to campus.
