United Way Campaign Underway

Contribution Deadline Dec. 16

Now officially in progress, The George Washington University’s 2005 United Way Campaign will continue through Dec. 16.

An e-mail was sent to all regular full- and part-time faculty and staff, providing information for those who wish to make contributions online to any one of hundreds of worthy causes.

“Over the years, The George Washington University has been a significant supporter of the United Way of the National Capital Area,” said President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg in the e-mail to the University community. “I am proud this tradition continues. I have often used the phrase ‘in and of the District of Columbia’ when describing GW — and these words are accurate for many reasons, including numerous educational and service programs through which GW gives back to its community. The United Way Campaign is a shining example.”

Employees contributing to the United Way may even select “The George Washington University” as a donation recipient. All designated funds to GW will be allocated to the GW Faculty-Staff Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships to students from the DC public schools who attend GW.

Some 25 members of the GW community are serving as United Way Campaign coordinators. For more information on how to participate, log on to www.gwu.edu/~newsctr/unitedway, or call the Office of University Events, central coordinator for the campaign, at 994-7129.
