$ Lecture “Diana Gabaldon: The Outlander Saga” Equal parts history, time travel, romance, and fantasy, the “Outlander” saga tells the story of an 18th-century Scotsman and his strong-willed, sensual 20th-century wife. $ Performance Ford’s Theatre Presents Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas Runs through Dec. 31. During the run of A Christmas Carol, Ford’s Theatre will host five Opening Act Workshops allowing students to explore key themes, relationships and issues through interactive exercises, improvisation and discussion. GW Theatre “Playing Dice with the Universe: A Centennial Celebration of Einstein’s Miraculous Year” an evening of theatre, dance, and music celebrating the 100th anniversary of the publication of three of Albert Einstein's most celebrated papers. Dorothy Betts Marvin Theatre, 7:30 pm. Prior to the show will be a reception at 6 pm in GW’s Luther W. Brady Art Gallery, which currently features portraits of Albert Einstein from the photography collection of Stephen Joel Trachtenberg and Francine Zorn Trachtenberg. Admission is free. $ Lecture “Mireille Guiliano on the French Manner of Healthy Living” French Women Don’t Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure, according to author Mireille Guiliano. Special Event Fort Ward Museum “Civil War Christmas Open House” Learn how Christmas was celebrated during the Civil War at Fort Ward Museum’s annual Christmas in Camp Open House. Civil War soldiers and civilians welcome visitors as they enjoy period music, decorations and refreshments. A Civil War-era Santa will listen to children’s holiday wishes, visit the troops, and read “The Night Before Christmas.” Noon–4 pm. Tours of the historic fort will be offered, weather permitting.
