• Elliott School of International Affairs

Opening: Fall 2002
About the Building: Steps from the US State Department, this facility, comprised of eight levels of academic facilities, residence hall space, and three levels of parking for 200 vehicles, will house the Elliott School and Executive Education programs upon completion. The academic spaces vary for teaching in a multitude of venues including theater/auditorium spaces, seminar rooms, classrooms, and offices. The residential component consists of one, two, and three bedroom suites, common areas/recreation room, and a retail space for a total of 193 beds.

 


• GW Hospital

Opening: Summer 2002
About the Building: The city’s first new hospital in 20 years, it will house 371 beds and employ 1,500 professionals supporting a medical staff of 900 physicians. GW Hospital is expected to be completed in 2002, approximately two years from the start of construction. The new hospital will allow for an expanded emergency room and larger operating rooms capable of accommodating today’s advanced surgical equipment. The majority of the patient rooms will be private, allowing appropriate space for patients and their families as well as physicians and staff.

About the Building: The four-level, $37 million Health and Wellness Center provides faculty, staff, and students a state-of-the-art recreational facility. The building houses four basketball courts; four racquetball courts; six international squash courts; free weights and cardio equipment; a jogging track; a three-lane, 25-yard lap pool; locker rooms; steam and sauna rooms; a pro shop; offices and meeting rooms, as well as underground parking for 110 vehicles.

• Mount Vernon Athletic Complex

About the Complex: This project includes new NCAA soccer and softball fields, six outdoor tennis courts, five (bubble covered) indoor tennis courts, locker rooms, support facilities, and a parking garage with 167 spaces.

Opened: January 2001
About the Building: The new Media and Public Affairs Building houses the School of Media and Public Affairs and related undergraduate and graduate programs including, public policy, telecommunications, political management, and public administration. This $27-million state-of-the-art facility also houses a teleconferencing venue; exhibition, storage, and office space for the University Art Gallery; a parking garage; and the 258-seat Jack Morton Auditorium. Among the events and faces to visit the MPA Building already are CNN’s “Crossfire,” Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Israeli President Moshe Katsav, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, CBS’s Bob Schiefer, and AOL vice chairman and Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis.

• Kogan Plaza
Opened: October 1999
About the Plaza: Kogan Plaza was designed to enhance the overall campus environment and to become a central gathering place. This space serves as a major campus crossroads, featuring attractive seating areas, landscaping, and surface treatments. The project includes three gateway entrances (named Professors Gate, America’s Gate, and Trustees Gate), the separation of pedestrians from Lisner Auditorium/Gelman Library truck traffic, an outdoor food service area, and a tempieto featuring classical columns and a domed cover.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kogan Plaza
