Student Association Grant to Fund Socially Responsible Initiatives

GW will provide the Student Association (SA) with an additional $25,000 in annual funding to support socially responsible initiatives. Under this two-year pilot program, the University will provide funds to the SA, which will select initiatives to fund.

“GW has a tradition of encouraging dialogue and constructive engagement on issues that challenge and rouse the University’s social and intellectual conscience,” says GW President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg. “We strive to foster leadership abilities and a sense of goodwill among our students. This pilot program provides an additional resource to support student-driven initiatives that further a social cause on the local, national, or international level—be it global warming, workers’ rights, world hunger, homelessness, education, or other projects.”

University faculty and administrators will work with the SA in the coming months to help define parameters and establish priorities for this initiative. The funding for socially responsible initiatives is a new revenue stream for students and does not replace any current financial support to the SA from the University.
