NCCA Joins GW’s Center on Aging, Health & Humanities

The National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA) and GW’s Center on Aging, Health & Humanities have formed a new partnership under which NCCA will move to Washington, D.C., from its current location in New York City.

The partnership will aim to build the capacity for “best practices” in arts and aging by conducting and informing research, developing and highlighting research findings, and advocating for public policy to address the cultural needs of older people and their communities.

Dean Futrell Honored with 2007 Virginia Women in History Award

Mary Futrell, dean of the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, was presented with the 2007 Virginia Women in History Award by the Library of Virginia at a March 1 ceremony. Futrell is among eight women honored this year for their outstanding contributions to Virginia and America.

“I am deeply honored to be selected by the Library of Virginia as one of their 2007 Virginia Women in History, and I’m proud to have contributed to the educational well being of students in Virginia and worldwide,” says Futrell.

Al Gore Delivers Lecture at GW on Environmental Protection

spoke March 18 at the annual National Association of Environmental Law Societies Conference held at GW.

Kalb Report Examines Journalism’s Future


Executives from television, print, and online media organizations discussed what lies ahead for the field of journalism on the GW-produced Kalb Report. The panel discussion moderated by journalist/scholar Marvin Kalb (center) featured (from left to right) Cliff Sloan, publisher of Slate and vice president of business affairs and general counsel of Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive; Ann Marie Lipinski, senior vice president and editor of The Chicago Tribune; Sean McManus, president of CBS News and Sports; and Paul Steiger, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal and vice president of Dow Jones & Company.
