GW Exhibition “GSEHD: A Century of Photos and Memorabilia” Gelman Library Special Collections hosts an exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Graduate School of Education and Human Development. GW Exhibition “The George Washington University Community Collects” Featuring works from the collections of patrons of the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery and members of the GW community. Exhibition “Frank Gehry, Architect: Designs for Museums” a multimedia exhibition, showcases Gehry’s extraordinary design contributions and celebrates his completed as well as those as yet unrealized cultural projects. Exhibition “Common Ground: Discovering Community in 150 Years of Art” Selections from the Collection of Julia J. This exhibition features 38 oils and watercolors highlighting her command of trompe l’oeil and her innovative inclusion of details and texts recognizable to women. $ Exhibition Pueblo Pottery: A Living Tradition. This collection celebrates the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian. It features eight works from four pueblos of the American Southwest, along with a display showing how the pottery is created and a documentary film on the art form. Exhibition Giovanni Piranesi and Vik Muniz: Prisons of Imagination. $ Presentation Joan Ganz Cooney- The Evolution and Significance of Sesame Street. The 8th Annual Smithsonian McGovern Award. In a special evening, Joan Ganz Cooney, the innovator of education methodology for young children, comes to the Smithsonian to receive the John P. McGovern Behavioral Science Award. On the occasion of its 35th anniversary, she shares her observations on the evolution of Sesame Street and its significance as a source of education- and delight- for children. $ Performance The Washington Ballet presents The Nutcracker. The old favorite has been adapted to fit the Washington community for this performance. The Nutcracker will run through Dec. 26. $ Performance Join the Kennedy Center and National Public Radio when some of today's top jazz pianists perform their favorite holiday songs in the Terrace Theater. $ Special Event Young Benefactor’s 15th Annual Jolly Holiday. Come join Young Benefactors of the Smithsonian for a Jolly Holiday Celebration. There will be an open bar including Covey Run wine and Heineken beers along with coffee and doughnuts provided by KrispyKreme. Performance Messiah Sing-along. Free, but tickets required. Tickets will be distributed, two per person, on Saturday, Dec. 11 in the Hall of Nations. Anyone not having a ticket may wish to come to the Kennedy Center on Dec. 23 as patrons without tickets will be admitted into the Concert Hall to fill unclaimed seats after 7:45 p.m. There is no guarantee on admittance but in the past we were able to accommodate everyone.
