DC Chamber of Commerce Honors GW’s Commitment to the District

In recognition of its overall contributions that make the District of Columbia a better place to live, learn and work, GW was honored with the DC Chamber of Commerce’s (DCCC) 2003 “Chair’s Award” on Nov. 13.

“The George Washington University is an academic and community gem here in our nation’s capital,” said DCCC President and CEO Barbara Lang. “Not only does the school provide a top-notch education for its students, but it is also the city’s largest private employer and has gone above and beyond in serving the local community.”

GW, a dedicated “Strategic Partner of the Chamber,” is the largest institution of higher education in the nation’s capital. The University is also the largest single post-secondary contributor in the nation of aid to DC Public Schools. In the past year alone, GW students, faculty and staff volunteered more than 90,000 hours of community service in DC.

“We take our commitment to the District of Columbia very seriously and this honor is deeply appreciated,” said GW President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg. “The people of GW give their time, energy and expertise for the single reward of knowing they are helping build a stronger community. In the process, we all benefit.”
