Recognition of the awards, honors, and recent publications of the GW faculty and staff


Acknowledgements:
Lisa Benton-Short, assistant professor of geography, CCAS, Marie Price, chair and associate professor of geography, CCAS, and Samantha Friedman, assistant professor of sociology, CCAS, presented “Globalization from Below: Immigration and the Ranking of World Cities” at the eighth annual International Metropolis Conference in Vienna, Austria. They analyzed immigration and diversity measurements for more than 60 countries around the world. Their research has been supported by a grant from the GW Center for the Study of Globalization.

Eric H. Cline, assistant professor of ancient history and archaeology, CCAS, published the chapter “The Mystery of the Sea Peoples,” in the volume Mysterious Lands: pp. 107–138, David O’Connor and Stephen Quirke, eds. (London: UCL Press. September 2003).

Michele Friend, assistant professor of philosophy, CCAS, presented “Some Philosophical Concerns about the Confidence in ‘Confident Learning’ ” at the 12th International Congress of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science in Oviedo, Spain, on Aug. 11, and to the Association of Symbolic Logic European Summer Meeting in Helsinki on Aug. 17.

Valentina Harizanov, professor of mathematics, CCAS, presented “Inductive Inference Machines for Mathematical Structures” at the 12th International Congress of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science in Oviedo, Spain, on Aug. 9.

Publications:
Prabir K. Bagchi, professor of logistics and operations management and associate dean, SBPM, co-published “Integration of Information Technology and Organizations in a Supply Chain Network,” with Tage Skjoett-Larsen of Copenhagen Business School in International Journal of Logistics Management, v. 14, n. 1, 2003. This research was funded by the Institute of Logistics and Goods Transport, Denmark.
