GW Documentary Center Film Ballad of Bering Strait Earns Emmy Nomination

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences nominated Nina Gilden Seavey, founder and director of the Documentary Center at The George Washington University, for a News and Documentary Emmy in the “outstanding individual achievement in a craft: direction” category for The Ballad of Bering Strait.

The film, directed by Seavey, is a feature-length documentary following seven Russian teenagers in their quest to become country music stars. Bering Strait was shot in hi-definition format on location in Russia and the United States, following the band on its two-and-a-half-year journey to the American stage.

The film was the winner of the Audience Award at the 2002 Washington International Film Festival and the Marco Island Film Festival, the “Chris Award” at the Columbus Film Festival and was an official selection at the International Documentary Association Festival in Los Angeles.

The 25th Annual News and Documentary Emmy awards will be presented Sept. 13 in New York City and televised on the Discovery Times Channel Sept. 25 at 8 pm.
