Colonials Sports Round Up

GW LAX Players Earn All-Conference
Junior Annie Howley and senior captain Meghan McDonough were selected to the 2005 Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team May 7. The team was announced following Richmond’s 10–8 victory over Duquesne in the tournament’s championship match.

Howley recorded a hat trick in GW’s semifinal loss to Duquesne May 6. She ranks second on the team with 37 points, including 28 goals.

McDonough notched a pair of assists against the Dukes and contributed a ground ball. She has 31 points on the season (19 goals, 12 assists).

Richmond’s Caroline McGuire was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after leading the Spiders to their first league championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The third-seeded Colonials were eliminated from championship play following a 13–10 loss to second-seeded Duquesne in the semifinals.

SI is Hot for Hostetler
Sophomore midfielder Laura Hostetler was highlighted in the May 9 edition of Sports Illustrated. The Ellicott City, MD, native appeared in the magazine’s “Faces in the Crowd” feature.

Hostetler helped lead GW to its first appearance in the A–10 Championship and a 13–5 overall record in 2005. She led the league with 79 points, including 54 goals, both Colonials’ single-season records. She was an A-10 All-Conference selection for the second straight season.

Spirits Soar
The George Washington University First Ladies Dance Team came home with a fourth place finish in the Dance I division at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) 2005 Chick-fil-A Cheer and Dance Collegiate Championship in Daytona, FL. The First Ladies finished behind Towson University, Idaho State University, and UNC Charlotte.

Salute to Seniors
Seniors Matt Treadgold, men’s tennis, and Jenny Heisler, women’s lacrosse, were named the 2005 recipients of the J. Dallas Shirley Outstanding Senior Male Athlete Award and the Lynn George Outstanding Senior Woman Athlete Award, respectively, at the annual Senior Honors Luncheon.

Treadgold, earned A-10 All-Conference accolades all four years, as well as being selected Academic All-Conference the past two seasons. He also was this year’s men’s tennis MVP.

Heisler started 64 of GW’s 65 games the last four seasons. She is tied for second on the team in both points with 34 and goals with 19 this season.
