ISS Speeds Accounting Workflow with EAS NOW

On March 31st, the Information Systems and Services (ISS) Administrative Applications Group released the EAS NOW (Notifications On the Web) function. This function lets Enterprise Accounting System (EAS) users who prepare and/or approve requisitions, releases or journal entries access and respond to their workflow notifications from any Web-connected computer, from anywhere in the world. No longer are users tied to the University’s physical campus to manage their EAS notifications.

“It’s an added convenience for users,” said John Sweeney, senior financial systems analyst with ISS Administrative Applications. “Now, they can access these notifications from anywhere in the world. Literally, this function affects several hundred EAS users. Most importantly, when there are requests awaiting approval, such as requisitions or general ledger journal entries, users can act on these requests through the Web. If a manager happens to be out when a number of requests come in, EAS notifications are available online to keep the process moving along.”

EAS workflow notifications are used to alert users to events or activities for which they need to take some action. Examples include requisitions or journals awaiting approval, requisitions that have been rejected and requisitions that have been returned by a buyer. For people who are familiar with EAS, managing your notifications via the Web is fairly straightforward. However, instructions on how to use this feature are available online at the following URL: http://eas.gwu.edu/home/support/documentation/documentation.cfm.

This EAS NOW project is part of a bigger push by ISS to make more application system functions available through the GWeb portal, and to move towards a single sign-on environment where users access multiple GW systems with a single login ID and password.
