GW Sponsors 2004 “Battleground Poll”

Gelman Library Will House Bipartisan Election Survey Archives

The George Washington University announced that it will sponsor the “2004 Battleground Poll,” a highly regarded, bipartisan election survey conducted by top polling firms Lake Snell Perry and Associates and The Tarrance Group. The survey will now be known as “The George Washington University Battleground Poll.” In addition, GW’s Gelman Library will become the official archive for all Battleground Polls conducted to date, as well as GW-Battleground Polls in the future.

“It’s an honor to be associated with the well-respected Battleground Poll,” said GW President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg. “And it represents another example of GW’s active participation in the democratic process. From candidate appearances on campus to CNN “Crossfire,” and now our association with the Battleground Poll, GW is providing students and faculty alike with unique hands-on experiences this presidential election year.”

“We are very pleased to be working with George Washington University on Battleground 2004,” said Battleground pollsters Celinda Lake and Ed Goeas. “This is a tremendous partnership with an institution that is known for linking both the practitioners and scholars of political campaigns.”

GW’s role in the Battleground Polls will be guided by Graduate School of Political Management Dean Christopher Arterton, who views this new relationship as useful both today and in the future. “By becoming the archive of the Battleground Polls since 1991, GW gains a valuable resource for use by our own students and professors, and for political scientists everywhere,” said Arterton.
