Recognition of the awards, honors, and recent publications
of the GW faculty and staff
Awards:
Donald Dew, professor of counseling, GSEHD,
received the Lifetime Distinguished Leadership Award from the National
Council of Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) at its national conference
in Tucson, AZ, on Feb. 20. The award was presented for his contribution
to NCRE and rehabilitation education.
Spencer Overton, associate professor of law,
LS, received the 2004 Derrick Bell Award from The Association of American
Law Schools Section on Minority Groups. The award is given to the untenured
member of the section who exemplifies commitment to outstanding scholarship
and community service. Overton also was selected as a finalist in the
Carnegie Scholars Program.

Christine Meloni, senior research associate,
GSEHD, Susan Willens, assistant professor of English, CCAS, and Larissa
Zolotareva, professor of English, Yakutsk State University, Yakutsk, Siberia
presented the paper Communicating in Cyberspace: The US-Siber Dialogue
at the annual conference of the Northeast Association for Language Learning
Technology held at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ.
Patricia Tanner, director of staffing and
compensation services, Department of Human Resource Services, was recently
certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Human Resource
Certification Institute.
Publications:
Elaine Murphy, lecturer in global health,
SPHHS, published Diffusion of Innovations: Family Planning in Developing
Countries, in Journal of Health Communications supplement
40 Years of Diffusion of Innovations: Utility and Value in Public Health,
February 2004, published in conjunction with Taylor & Francis and
funded by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Appointments:
Paola Ceccarini was appointed reference and instruction librarian at Gelman
Library. Ceccarini comes to GW from New York Public Library where she
served as the instructional services librarian for the humanities and
social sciences library.
