Business and Service Group to Host Focus Groups

As the Employee Core Group looks to improve programs that will enhance the lives of employees, they are seeking input and assistance from all University employees. The group will be hosting five Employee Community Focus Groups April 13–21, discussing employee appreciation, recognition and community culture.

When the University unveiled a comprehensive strategic initiative at the start of the 2001–02 academic year the goal was to establish a plan to propel GW into the ranks of the top-tier institutions. To that end a Business and Service Committee (BSC), led by Executive Vice President and Treasurer Louis Katz and Senior Vice President for Student and Academic Support Services Robert Chernak, established a two-pronged project framework featuring an employee resources core group and a service excellence core group to reintroduce GW’s core values and reinvigorate the quality of service provided for all branches of the University.

The Employee Core Group explores aspects of orientation, training, professional development and communications. Since its formation the group has focused its efforts on reviewing and improving the following key program areas:

• Programs and services to promote and recognize service excellence for outstanding performance and contributions in our work environment;
• Programs and services that support community in our employee culture; and
• Programs and services that help employees achieve work-life balance.

To attend one of the focus groups, send an E-mail to sass@gwu.edu or call 994-7210. You also may discuss your ideas with the Employee Core Group staff member representing your area.
