Brig Owens Is “In the Know”

Brig Owens, defensive back for the Washington Redskins from 1966–77 and member of the “70 Greatest Redskins” team, was the latest in a line of prominent speakers to address guests at The George Washington University Club’s “In The Know” series Feb. 12.

The series — a luncheon conversation with prominent leaders in politics, the arts, and civic life — kicked off January 2002 with Rep. Marty Meehan (D–MA) and has included guests such as Gloria Borger, a contributing editor at US News & World Report, Ambassador Rubens Barbosa of Brazil, and GW Professor of the Practice of Political Psychology and International Affairs Jerrold Post.

Owens is no stranger to the GW community. As the founder of the youth mentoring program Super Leaders, Owens has used the University’s facilities to host meetings of the peer leadership and self-empowerment program.

“GW has been very supportive of the Super Leaders program,” said Owens. “For these students to be able to meet at the University and dream of going to school here is very important.”

During his discussion, Owens credited the attention to detail and preparation skills honed under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coaches Vince Lombardi and George Allen for many of the successes he has experienced off the field.
