Two GW Undergrads Named Among Leading Minority Students

Two undergraduates in GW’s School of Business are among the “Most Promising Minority Students of 2005,” according to a new honor roll released by American Advertising Federation (AAF). Meena Patel, a senior majoring in marketing and tourism and hospitality management, and Rebecca Tasca Valle, also a senior with a concentration in marketing, are among the students selected by AAF.

A premier advertising industry award, AAF’s Most Promising Minority Students Program recognizes and recruits outstanding minority college graduates in advertising, marketing, and communications. Both students were nominated by Lynda Maddox, a professor of marketing and advertising, after their outstanding performance in Maddox’s fall 2004 advertising course.

As part of the honor, Patel and Valle were recognized during a three-day industry program in New York City Feb. 8–10, and their names, photos, and school will be featured in Advertising Age and in USA Today.

“The award is important to me because it recognizes that minorities are an asset to the marketing, advertising, and media industries, and the AAF celebrates minorities’ contributions to these fields,” said Patel, a native of Temple, PA.

Valle, who hails from Baltimore, MD, aspires to work as a copywriter or account executive at an advertising firm.
