GW Launches New Employee Appreciation and Education
Program
By Matthew
Nehmer
The University rang in the New Year with the inauguration of an initiative
celebrating the GW employee. The program, Colonial Community, Your
Life at GW, is dedicated to enhancing campus culture among University
staff, through the development of programs that focus on recognition,
community building, and work-life balance. The program officially launched
at a ceremony in the Marvin Center Great Hall Jan. 12.
As
a community of learning, GW is dedicated to communication, respect, service,
and teamwork, said Executive Vice President and Treasurer Louis
Katz. Colonial Community is dedicated to providing educational and
spirit-building programs for GW staff. Through these efforts, we hope
that employees continue to see the vital role they play on campus.
GW Vice President and General Counsel Dennis Blumer, who co-chairs the
Employee Core Group with Katz, added, In creating this program,
we considered various projects which would make a difference in the lives
of the employee. We hope to demonstrate how important we believe GW employees
are to this institution, through activities that enhance their experience
as members of the GW community.
Initially convened as the Employee Appreciation and Recognition Sub-Committee
of the Employee Core Group, the activities were co-chaired by Peter Konwerski
from Student and Academic Support Services and Pat Tanner from Human Resource
Services. This committee worked to assess employee recognition, community
building, and work-life balance in education, industry, and other organizations.
In August 2004, the Employee Core Group approved creating a part-time
staff member to manage the program.
