"The Mayor" Fred Hoiberg -- a hometown hero who became known as "The Mayor" after repeatedly receiving write-in votes for local office in Ames, Iowa, is currently a forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team. Hoiberg led the Ames High School basketball team to the state championship in his senior year, and was selected as Iowa's "Mr. Basketball" and "Mr. Football" before going on to lead the Iowa State University basketball team.
