"I worked with Hayter (known to all his students as "Bill") at the Atelier 17, from 1961 until 1964. While I was teaching at the Corcoran, in the late '60's, before coming to the George Washington University, I invited some of my students to meet Hayter in my F street studio. He happened to be in town to give a lecture at the NCFA. We spent several hours with him as he spoke about the great artists whom he had taught: Picasso, Jackson Pollack, Marc Chagall, Krishna Reddy, and others. We also discussed with him his love of etching and engraving and his development of innovative print techniques." |
