A RESEARCHER’S GUIDE TO THE HONDURAS DATABASE

There are two separate Honduras Databases.  The DC Remote (on local) holds declassified U.S. government documents, press clips from U.S. news sources, and various book excerpts.  Most of these records are in English.  This database is compiled and maintained by a fellow at The National Security Archive.

The Recortes de Prensa (on local) contains articles from Honduran news sources.  The full texts of the majority of the documents from 1995 to the present are available.  Records from previous years are generally paragraph summaries of articles.  This database is compiled and maintained by the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman of Honduras.

Both Honduras Databases are in a Lotus 4.6 format.  This program allows for full-text keyword searches.  It is also important to use Spanish search terms for the Recortes de Prensa database.
