Graduate Work Study

The George Washington University

Graduate Work Study can be confusing because so many different offices are involved. For your information, the entire process is outlined below.

  1. The schools recommend to the Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships a list of incoming or continuing students from a master list of students who have indicated that they want to be considered for Work Study on the GW Loan Questionnaire and have need. In addition, graduate students may apply directly by filling out a short application for Work Study available on-line at Work Study or in Rice Hall 602. Once the initial awards are made, students can also fill out a Work-Study Waiting List Request Form (in case funds become available for re-award) which can also be found online at Work Study Waiting List Request Form or in Rice Hall 602.

  2. The Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships screens those recommended and submits the choices to the Office of Student Financial Assistance. To begin this process you must fill out a Work Study Application.

  1. The Office of Student Financial Assistance makes a final check and, if the student is still eligible, sends a new letter to the student awarding Work Study. Loan information is also included in this letter.

  1. The student accepts or declines the award in writing to the Office of Student Financial Assistance. If he or she accepts, the job application process begins by applying for jobs in the Career Center located at 1922 F Street, NW Suite 200. Students may also access GWork (GW's online job listing system), which includes Work Study positions.
