Ambassador Shinn's article "Africa, China and Health Care" was published in the electronic Africa Institute of South Africa, AISA Newsletter. Another article, "The China Factor in African Ethics," was abridged and published in on the home page of Policy Innovations Web site.

Gordon Adams' op-ed "Don't Grow the Army:Expansion Ducks the Real Question of Defining the Force's Mission, co-authored with John Diamond was published in the December 31, 2006 Washington Post.

Nathan Brown's article "Kuwait: Is the beginning of real politics taking place?" appeared in The Daily Star (Lebanon) on December 27.

Kirk Larsen was interviewed by South Korean Hankyoreh newspaper about South Korean sunshine policy on December 22; .." "Haebyôt chôngch'aekûn silp'aehenûnga?" [Has the Sunshine Policy Failed?]" Washington Report, no. 2, Hankyoreh.

John Logsdon invited NASA Administrator Michael Griffin to speak to Space Policy students on December 11. The informal exchange of views lasted one-hour.

David Shambaugh published China Watching: Perspectives from Europe, Japan, and the United States; co-editors Robert Ash and Seiichiro Takagi (Routledge Contemporary China Series, 2006).

Elizabeth Chacko has been selected the 2006 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching District of Columbia Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

James R. Millar, Emeritus Professor, was awarded the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies' Distinguished Contributions to Slavic Studies Award at their annual convention on November 19, 2006.

Ambassador David Shinn delivered "Free Trade, Fair Trade, and Sustainable Trade: The Case of Resource Extraction" at the 2006 Oxford-Uehiro-Carnegie Council Conference on December 7-8, 2006.

Ambassador Karl Inderfurth had an op-ed, "To Stop the Taliban, Afghans need Pakistan's Cooperation," published in the December 8, San Jose Mercury News.

The website allAfrica.com published "Nigeria: 2006 and Global Polio Eradication." The article quoted U.S. Under Secretary Paula Dorbrianky from the lecture she delivered at the Elliott School.

Kirk Larsen was a guest on Al Jazeera on December 18 for a live interview in Arabic (with translator) on N. Korea.

Ambassador Karl Inderfurth's op-ed, "To Stop the Taliban, Afghans need Pakistan's Cooperation," was published in the December 8, San Jose Mercury News.

Gordon Adams' commentary, "Mr. Gates Fix the Budget Plan First," aired on American Public Media's Marketplace on December 5.

Ambassador David Shinn was interviewed on VOA Radio about the new UN resolution endorsing a peacekeeping force in Somalia.

Ambassador Karl Inderfurth published an op-ed with Derek Chollet entitled "Gates as the anti-Rumsfeld" in the Chicago Tribune; and "Taking on the Taliban" another op-ed, in the Baltimore Sun.

Walter Reich published "Shoah Survivor Kept Memories Alive, Appreciation" in the December 4 Jewish Daily Forward.

Taras Kuzio published his op-ed "Looking to 2009 on the Ukraine's Second Orange Anniversary" in the online KYIV Post on November 30.

Ambassador David Shinn's comments at a Nixon Center sponosred event on Terrorism in Africa on Nov 20, was the topic of a The National Interest Online article on November 21.

Gordon Adams' op-ed "Who is US kidding?" was published in the November 24 Boston Globe.

Gordon Adams published "Beyond Iraq" on the National Interest Online site on November 15.

Ambassador David Shinn participated in the BBC's "Africa Have Your Say" hour long radio program on November 16. The topic was terrorism in Africa.

Ambassador David Shinn delivered Somalia: Regional Involvement and Implications for US Policy to the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research on October 4.

Ambassador David Shinn participated in an on-air discussion "Somalia Edges Closer to a New War" on NPR's Talk of the Nation on Nov. 2.

Gordon Adams published "Democrats and National Security" on the National Interest Online site on November 1 and "Time to Rebuild What Rumsfeld Has Broken" in the 11.6 Defense News.

Merve Kavacki was a participant in an Oct 29 VOA Encounter TV dialogue on the veil controversy in Europe. See "Politics of the Veil."

Ambassador David Shinn's article "An Out of the Box Idea: China, Africa, and the United States Health Care Cooperation" was published in the Washington Journal of Modern China.

Stephen C. Smith was interviewed by Margot Adler about his book Ending Global Poverty: A Guide to What Works, for Justice Talking, in an online audio news format from NPR.

Under Secretary of State Paula Dobriansky inaugurated the Elliott School's Distinguished Women in International Affairs Series with an October 10 talk on "The Global Fight to end Polio."

Ambassador David Shinn outlined Somalia's future on an American Enterprise Institute panel on October 4. Coverage included a US Info article.

Kirk Larsen appeared on the October 9 DC area News Channel 8's "NewsTalk" to discuss North Korea nuclear program.

Ambassador David Shinn discussed security issues in the Horn of Africa at an American Enterprise Institute meeting on October 4. Shinn was quoted in an allAfrica.com article about the event.

A feature article on Dean Brown and the Elliott School is in a special edition of GW Magazine.

Jamie Bosket, Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Services, was interviewed by the Daily Colonial about his office's new use of instant messaging as another method of advising students.

Eduardo Bertoni, MIPP student, had his op-ed "Freedom of Expression" published in the Sept. 26 Miami Herald.

Mike Mochizuki's op-ed "Japan's Drift From Pacifism" appeared in the September 21 Los Angeles Times.

Ambassador David Shinn appeared on the BBC World Service TV news to discuss the current crisis in Somalia.

Shawn McHale was a guest on NPR's Sept. 20 Day to Day program on which he discussed the coup in Thailand and its importance for the United States.

Ambassador Karl F. Inderfurth was a guest on the September 18 Kojo Nnamdi show to discuss the opening session of the United Nations with world leaders – including President Bush.

David H. Shinn delivered "Somaliland, the Horn of Africa and U.S. Policy" at the second annual 2006 Somaliland Convention held in Crystal City from September 8 – 10.

The "9-11 Plus 5" young leaders summit at the Elliott School was the subject USA Today's GenNext Blog (Sept 1), and received a mention in the Washington Times Embassy Row column.

The Elliott School will be accepting applications for the Masters of Arts program in Middle East Studies for fall semester 2007. For more information, please visit the program's Web site.

Mike Mochizuki's op-ed "Koizumi's Successor Must Settle the War Shrine Row" appeared in the August 16 edition of the Financial Times.

Walter Reich's article: "Ethics of War" was published in the New York Sun on August 10 and addresses the crisis in Lebanon.

David Shinn was interviewed on the Leonard Lopate radio show on August 3, where he discussed Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

Gordon Adams published "Iraq and the Red Ink: An Amorality Tale" in the July 24 edition of Defense News

Henry Farrell published an op-ed entitled "Privacy in Europe is a casualty of America's terror war" in the Financial Times on July 3.

Gordon Adams published an op-ed, "The Politics of Fear, the Revenge of Hope," in the Baltimore Sun on July 5.

Mike Mochizuki and Michael O'Hanlon published "Preemption and North Korea," an op–ed, in the Washington Times.

David Shinn appeared on the C-Span program "Washington Journal" on Sunday, June 11 to discuss the current political situation in Somalia.

Karl F. Inderfurth published "U.S. must move to stop Afghanistan's slide" on June 1 in the Baltimore Sun.

Walter Reich was named a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association at their annual meeting in Toronto on May 23rd.

Karl F. Inderfurth's course "Secretaries of State and the Practice of International Affairs" was profiled on the Washington Post's Federal Page on May 19.

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan spoke to GW students, including many Elliott School students and faculty members, at the Lisner Auditorium on May 5.

Nobel Peace Prize recipient Shirin Ebadi spoke at the Elliott School on May 4 as part of the Robert J Pelosky Distinguished Lecture series.

President Sulejman Tihic, a member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina tripartite presidency, delivered a speech at the Elliott School on May 10 regarding the challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina and their efforts to amend the constitution.

The spring edition of the Elliott School's International Affairs Review can now be found online.

Joanna Spear has been appointed to the Executive Board of Women in International Security, an organization dedicated to increasing the influence of women in the fields of foreign and defense affairs.

Elliott School Alumnus Jonathan R. Weinberger (M.A. '00) has been named the U.S. Treasury Department Executive Secretary.

Robert Dunn, Professor of Economics, published "The ECB's Wasted Youth" in The Wall Street Journal, European Edition, on March 10-12.

Karl F. Inderfurth published "A U.S. Itinerary for Action in Pakistan" in the Christian Science Monitor and "Friendship with India emerges as key U.S. Alliance" in the Baltimore Sun on March 1.

Walter Reich published "In Denial" in the March 2 edition of The Wall Street Journal Europe, where he argues that it's time for Europeans to decriminalize Holocaust denial.

Kevin Healy published an article on Evo Morales of Bolivian February 2 Indian Country Today.

Gordon Adams published "A cry for help from Pentagon" in the Baltimore Sun on February 16 and "Rethinking the Military's Mission" in the Chicago Tribune on February 15.

Gordon Adams blogged for DemocracyArsenal.org, which is a blog devoted to U.S. foreign policy and global affairs.

David Alan Grier published his first monthly column in the January edition of Computer magazine.

Nathan Brown discusses the Palestinians, Israelis, and Western diplomacy in "Getting Real With Hamas," published in Foreign Policy.

Edward "Skip" Gnehm, was profiled in the January 26 GW Hatchet.

Karl F. Inderfurth, S. Frederick Starr and Marvin G. Weinbaum published "Don't Shortchange Afghanistan Again" in the January 23 edition of the International Herald Tribune.

Guy Ben-Ari, an Elliott School alum and GW Doctoral candidate, published "C3 Interoperability in Europe: The Challenge Ahead."

Karl F. Inderfurth discussed UN reform and Ambassador John Bolton on WAMU's Kojo Nnamdi Show on January 18.

Karl F. Inderfurth will be on WAMU's Kojo Nnamdi Show to discuss UN reform on Wednesday, January 18 at noon.

Walter Reich published "Sharon the Father" in the New York Sun on January 10. He has also recently published "Something's Missing in Spielberg's 'Munich'" and participated in an online discussion about his commentary.

Leon Fuerth published "Calling a truce in D.C.'s Iraq war" in the Los Angeles Times on January 10.

The American-Kuwaiti Alliance has selected former U.S. Ambassador Edward "Skip" Gnehm as its executive vice chairman of the board of directors.

Karl F. Inderfurth will appear on the Declassified series on the History Channel on Thursday, January 5 at 10 p.m.
