- A Message from the Dean
- The Elliott School enjoyed many successes and several genuine triumphs in 2005-06, and we have set the stage for a number of important initiatives in the upcoming year.

- Pam Jenoff (BA '92) was previously a Foreign Service Officer and Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Army. She is presently an attorney at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Philadelphia. Her first novel, A Fine Crack of Light," is being published later this year.

- Two Nobel Peace Prize winners at the Elliott School:
- On May 5, UN Secretary–General Kofi Annan, delivered a lecture on the relationship between the United States and the United Nations during an academic convocation hosted by The George Washington University and its Elliott School of International Affairs. Annan received an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree and launched an annual lecture series on U.S.–UN relations at the Elliott School.
- Secretary–General Annan's visit was preceded by a May 4 evening lecture by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Shirin Ebadi who discussed human rights, women and Islam. Ebadi, a lawyer and human rights activist in Iran, is the first Muslim woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Her lecture was part of the Elliott School's Robert J. Pelosky, Jr. Distinguished Speaker Series.
- Annan was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001, and Ebadi was awarded hers in 2003.
- Dr. Lloyd H. Elliott, former president of The George Washington University, addressed the Elliott School class of 2006 at the Smith Center. The Elliott School is named for Dr. Elliott and his wife, Betty.
- On July 13, the Elliott School of International Affairs, in partnership with the Meridian International Center and USAID, co-sponsored the panel discussion, Governing in Bolivia with Greater Regional Autonomy." The Spanish language discussion included a panel of five of Bolivia's first popularly elected governors and Dr. Robert Albro, Visiting Professor of Anthropology at GW. The panelists gave presentations and discussed issues such as regional autonomy, the constituent assembly, internal migration, nationalization of industry, their working relationships with the Evo Morales administration, and prospects for U.S.–Bolivian relations.
The Elliott School Launches a New Program in Middle East Studies
