Background:
Douglas B. Shaw serves as the Associate Dean for Planning, Research, and External Relations at the George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs, with a concurrent appointment as Assistant Professor of International Affairs. Dr. Shaw previously served as Director of Policy Planning in the Office of the President at Georgetown University, worked for the U.S. Department of Energy to secure weapons-usable nuclear material in Ukraine, and contributed to the success of the global diplomatic campaign to extend the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) for the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. He has also served in leadership roles in several non-governmental organizations, including Physicians for Social Responsibility, the Lawyers Alliance for World Security, the Institute on Religion and Public Policy, College Bound, and the Workers Rights Consortium. He has lectured on nuclear nonproliferation on four continents in venues including the Organization of American States and Harvard University; discussed security issues on C-SPAN and National Public Radio; and has been published in the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Nonproliferation Review, and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.
