Fall is Customer Service Season

Nominations Sought for Customer Service Awards

The University seeks nominations for customer service awards in the categories of customer service enhancement, faculty choice award and student choice award. The honors are part of the third annual Customer Service Celebration Oct. 6, an initiative designed to reaffirm the University’s commitment to customer service. The theme of this year’s event is “Going for the Gold.”

“Departments have made many improvements in customer service over the past several years, and it shows,” said Taina Shields, manager of financial emergency/emergent issues team, who heads the 21-member committee planning for the event. “This gives these departments an opportunity to do something nice for their staff, to show how much they appreciate their staff.”

The Customer Service Enhancement Award is a departmental honor given in recognition of a special project/initiative developed by the department in order to enhance the service provided to customers. This award will be presented based upon a self-nomination. Departments that have created and implemented a customer service enhancement project/initiative are encouraged to nominate themselves by going to the Celebration Web site and clicking on the award nominations link.

Additional awards will be presented to customer service staff based on nominations from three primary GW constituencies: faculty, staff and students.

The Faculty’s Choice Award will be presented to a department or customer service staff member who has provided excellent customer service. The award will be presented based upon faculty nominations documenting a particular situation in which the nominee provided excellent service to a customer (either internal or external).

The Staff’s Choice Award will be presented to a department or customer service staff member who has provided excellent service. The award will be presented based upon staff nominations documenting a particular situation in which the nominee provided excellent service to a customer (either internal or external).

The Student’s Choice Award will be presented to a department or customer service department or staff member who has provided excellent service to a GW student. The award will be presented based upon student nominations documenting a particular experience in which the student received exceptional service.

“Customer service isn’t something that can be changed in one day,” said Philip Ng, project and program coordinator, in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Treasurer. “This is a good way to create a positive atmosphere. GW has done a lot over the past few years and those efforts have improved service by leaps and bounds.”

Nominations for the awards must be submitted by 5 pm, Sept. 29, and may be made online at the gw portal at http://my.gwu.edu. If you have any questions regarding any of these awards, visit the customer service celebration Web site http://service.gwu.edu/celebration or E-mail the Committee to Celebrate Customer Service at service@gwu.edu.
